The church is not merely a physical building, but a living community of people. Jesus patiently taught His disciples about the cross and the resurrection. The true root of our Christian faith is a Jesus-centered faith, meaning it begins right at the cross. However, the disciples argued among themselves about who was the greatest. Jesus gently says to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he must be the very last and serve." The Lord set a little child in the midst of them and warmly took him into His arms. He showed that welcoming the lowest among us is a life that truly welcomes Jesus, and furthermore, God Himself. The cross that Jesus bore broke the heavy curse of sin and death, and completely overturned our standard of asking who is the greatest through His loving service. So now, placing the cross and the resurrection at the center of our lives, let us build up the church with sincere service and warm hospitality. As the church that is the true body of the Lord, let the church that pleases Jesus begin today, starting right here with me.
