Dr. Yu-Po Lee and Dr. Steven Garfin of UCSD discuss sacroiliac joint disorders in this Exploration Health Segment. Two patients share their stories of SI joint pain - one caused by a traumatic injury and the other caused by long term degeneration likely originating during pregnancy. These patients went on to have sacroiliac joint fusion using the iFuse Implant System after conservative treatments were unsuccessful. SI-BONE, Inc. has developed a minimally invasive surgical (MIS), innovative, patented, implant system for some sacroiliac (SI) joint problems. The iFuse Implant System® consists of titanium implants and associated surgical instruments. The iFuse Implant System is intended for sacroiliac fusion for conditions including sacroiliac joint dysfunction that is a direct result of sacroiliac joint disruption and degenerative sacroiliitis. This includes conditions whose symptoms began during pregnancy or in the peripartum period and have persisted postpartum for more than 6 months. There are potential risks associated with the iFuse Implant System. It may not be appropriate for all patients and all patients may not benefit. For information about the risks, visit: www.si-bone.com/risks U.S. Patent Nos. 8,202,305; 8,840,623; 8,986,348; and 9,039,743; pending U.S. and foreign patent applications. *Dr. Steven Garfin is a paid consultant of and has ownership interest in SI-BONE Inc.
