A gorgeous canyon with an abundance of layered limestone which makes for a very interesting and beautiful environment. The start of the canyon is rather open but about halfway in it becomes very narrow and quite dark. The Lirone canyon offers many possibilities for sliding and jumping. This beautiful canyon is located on the eastern side of Lake Lugano, just west of the Como Lake (Lago di Como), and only about an hours drive from the canyoning hotspot of Bellinzona, Ticino. Sadly there is a bit of trash to be found in the beginning of the canyon. Parking: 46°00'25.6"N 9°05'08.9"E (with 2 cars park the top one here: 45°59'51.8"N 9°04'56.1"E) Approach: If you arrive with only one car available, park in Osteno on the big parking lot and cross the river. Follow the Via Alessandro Giobbi up on the western side of the river (it's possible to take a shortcut to avoid the long serpentine), until it merges with the SP14. Walk up the SP14 for a bit until you find the upper parking spot. Walk past the workshop and across the first bridge. About 50m after the first bridge there is a second smaller bridge besides which a small path is found that takes you down into the canyon. (30 min) Descent: 2,5 - 3 hours Way back: Follow the river until you go underneath the bridge and the parking lot is immediately on your right.
