It's been a year since I came to this particular footbridge near Wimbledon on the South Western Main Line (SWML) and this time round, I finally get to see a fleet of brand new trains running suburban services on the Slow Lines. Yes they were the brand new Class 701 Arterio Aventras which were long overdue after years of delays for 6 years which they were meant to be introduced to the network caused by a number of technical software issues and union discussions. But now, they are finally in service and running on services to Windsor & Eton Riverside, the Hounslow Loop, Weybridge via Hounslow, the Kingston Loop, Shepperton, Reading, Hampton Court, Guildford and Dorking so far which is brilliant. At the same time, they running alongside the older trains including the 40 year old Class 455s plus the 26 year old Class 458 Junipers and the 21 year old Class 450 Desiros which are been used to cover those services until more of the Class 701 Arterio Aventras are rolled into service to operate them. Also in the video, you'll see a Class 60 hauling a load of Hopper Wagons crossing from the St.Helier Line used by Thameslink services on the Wimbledon Loop Line onto the Down Slow Line from Wimbledon which did cause a bit of congestion on the line for a short time. The best thing about the Class 701 Arterio Aventra is that their acceleration rate is much quicker to their older counterpart so it looks amazing in the end. The Trains and Locomotives in the video include: Class 60 Class 159 Class 444 Desiro Class 450 Desiro Class 455 Class 458 Juniper Class 700 Desiro City Class 701 Arterio Aventra Date: 4/9/25 Operators: South Western Railway Thamelink Enjoy!
