When I am in trouble, how do I talk to God and know that He will hear me? ——————————————————————— DEVOTIONAL: You don't need special words to talk to God. You can simply talk to God as you would to a trusted friend. God understands your emotions — He made them — so don't worry about getting too emotional with God. Tell Him your fears and worries, and claim His promise to rescue you from temptation and danger and to stay with you no matter what comes. ——————————————————————— GOD'S RESPONSE: In my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from His sanctuary; my cry reached His ears. ~Psalm 18:6 The LORD hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. ~Psalm 34:17 ——————————————————————— GOD'S PROMISE: When they call on me, /will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them. ~Psalm 91:15 ——————————————————————— PERSONAL TAKEAWAY: One of my strong skill I believe I have is my ability to Code Switch. To be able to go into an environment and adapt to their mannerisms, speech, language, culture, without sticking too far out is a skill I have practiced over my entire life. I’ve done it my whole life. Growing up we moved to so many different schools and places that my brother and I were exposed to all kinds of people. For a while, I can say that it left my identity scarred. Always wanting to blend in or scared to stand out?m When I first came to Christ I would code switch with Him as well. Never truly knew who I was or what my voice was…even while being in Christ I would use these big words and elegant phrasings to sound in tuned with the Word. A lot of the times it was to win the approval from Friends and Family and “make God proud” “Wow, that was an amazing prayer, Isaiah” was what I lived to hear at one point in time. To be praised for how I prayed & praised… Wickedly backwards. But now, though I use the strong words for reverence within my prayers, I am no longer code switching because I know that no matter how “good” you sound…that does not mean that God knows you as that. Also, how I speak to God is how I am beginning to speak to others. But it came after deciding that I didn’t want to be like the world but rather Christ. I still have many moments where I switch, but when I do, my identity in Christ is no longer jeopardized or corrupted. Thank you Father for your grace and mercy! Thank you for guiding me and creating in me an identity that I don’t have to hide from. Please increase my confidence in exactly how you made me to be so that I may fully fulfill the purpose you have for me. In Jesus Name, Amen #pursuing #christ #becoming #creator #devotional
