Into Vanoise National Park | Quiet Miles, Cowbells & a Lakeside Bivouac – Day 14 After a slow morning and two good coffees, I leave the campsite around 10:45. Robin and Julien might stay another night or move on to the next campsite — we agree to hopefully meet again tomorrow evening at a refuge in Vanoise National Park. Louise has already left early in the morning. I take my time climbing. It’s warm, the kind of heat that makes you sweat honestly. The trail leads deeper into Vanoise, and the valley opens up — rivers, waterfalls, and wide alpine silence. I’m hoping to find a beautiful bivouac spot along the way. Around 4 p.m., I decide to keep walking toward the first refuge instead. The perfect spot doesn’t appear — and the hut is already close. And it turns out to be a good choice. Camping is allowed near the lake, surrounded by cows and the soft rhythm of their bells. One of those places where the evening feels earned. I chat for a bit with Ralf, a hiker from Antwerp walking the GR5. Several people ask about my camera — and about YouTube. Funny how the trail notices you back sometimes. At 20:30 I crawl into my tent. Tomorrow will be a long day. An early start awaits. 🎒⛰️ 🗺️ Highlights Entering Vanoise National Park Alpine valleys with rivers and waterfalls Lakeside camping near a refuge 🏕️ Overnight: Bivouac near the refuge, by the lake If you enjoy slow hiking stories, wild camping, and life unfolding one step at a time — feel free to walk along.
