Follow me as I run 100 miles ultra marathon in Phoenix Arizona to celebrate the new year. 100 miles in tiny 1.42 miles loops - perfect condition for a sub 24 hours 100 miles! Across the Year 100 miles ultra marathon was my last race of 2024, or first of 2025. Based on my training cycle, I'd call it "first of 2025" and was the perfect setting to test my fitness for the year ahead. Big adventures coming up, and I want to make sure my body and fitness level is in the right place before tackle some big races. If you've followed my channel before, you probably know that this isn't exactly my typical race. I'd much rather be up in the mountains. But a flat course really simplifies things and helps me address questions very accurately. I used this opportunity to test some pacing strategy (see also Long Haul 100 miles in a few weeks). For this race, I decided I would delibaretely pace too fast until I coudln't keep going. That translated to a ~10 minutes per miles for about 40 miles, followed by going 12 min miles for some time. My goals coming in were to 1) complete 100 miles, 2) in under 24 hours, 3) determine how long I could go at a fast pace. I would say mission accomplish, but of course, the second half of the race was very uncomfortable. That was the plan... What I did not plan for was how awesome people were. Given the nature of the course and various distance and events (24 hours, 6 days, 100 miles, marathon, etc) you had a nice mix of runners of different level, and we could share a lot of miles and smiles. The volunteers and crews were great too. We had mandie and her crew adopt Nora for the duration! What's next? Arizona Monster 300 miles in early April. As always - Thanks for watching and remember - Work Hard! Believe in yourself! Push your limits!
