"Usagi Usagi" is a Japanese folk song that is great for beginning shinobue flute learners. It mostly has "Ryo on" (lower octave of shinobue range), which is essential to learn how to play relaxed and beautifully before we can attempt to play "Kan on" (higher octave). In a Japanese folktale, it is said that a rabbit lives on the moon, and this old Japanese folk song talks about the little Usagi, hence the title. "Usagi Usagi" is one of the most beloved Japanese folk songs and many Japanese children learn it in kindergarten or at home from their parents or grandparents. I feel like Japanese people sing to their kids a lot at home and there are fewer tone deaf people in Japan (I teach voice lessons in the US), but this is just my observation.
