Welcome back to Electro Revolution. In this episode, I continue the return journey from Melbourne to Sydney in the BYD Seal Premium. This is Part 3 of the road trip series, covering the first three charging stops on the way home — complete with real-world charging data, costs, efficiency figures, and charger reliability insights. Originally, I planned just three charging stops for the return leg. However, unexpected charger outages (including a full site failure at BP Pulse) meant adapting in real time. In this episode, we cover: • Ampol AmpCharge 150kW session • Unplanned EVIE 150kW top-up • BP Pulse 150kW charge to 100% ⚡ Charging Performance & Costs Breakdown Total distance covered: 265.6 km (165 miles) Total energy added: 101.472 kWh Total charging time: 1 hour 37 minutes Total cost: $74.57 AUD Average charging cost: 76c per kWh Real-world efficiency (highway driving): 23.65 kWh/100km We also look at charging curve behavior — including how the Seal tapers from 120kW down to ~79kW as state-of-charge increases. This is critical for understanding optimal stop strategy and time efficiency on long-distance EV travel. The AmpCharge experience was seamless via app integration and Google Pay, while the EV charger (78c/kWh) remains one of the more expensive options across NSW and Victoria. BP Pulse delivered solid reliability at this stop — though earlier planned chargers were fully offline. If you're considering long-distance EV travel in Australia, this episode provides practical insights into: • Charger redundancy planning • Cost per kWh comparisons • Highway efficiency at 110 km/h • Charging to 80% vs 100% strategy • Real-world EV road trip logistics In the next episode, we cover the final two charging stops — plus a surprise BYD bus encounter — before completing the trip back to Sydney.
