Filmed: 10/19/2024 I have been to Wellington, OH numerous times over the years. My very first visit was back in 2016 while heading toward Sandusky for Great Wolf Lodge coming back from the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. I had never seen or heard of the Lorain and West Virginia Railroad until stumbling upon their home base along OH 18. From then on, I decided that I was one day going to catch the E unit running. Eight years later, it finally happened. The original L&VW was constructed in 1906 by the original Wheeling and Lake Erie to serve the steel mills in Cleveland, and connect with the main line in Wellington, OH. Now days, a tourist operation under the same name operates over roughly 5 miles of this track north of Wellington. The railroad uses a former Chicago and Northwestern E8A as its primary locomotive, and 1950s era passenger cars and other rolling stock. The railroad operates several times a year, and brings in quite a few people, especially for their Autumn and Winter themed train rides. I brought my friends Gavin and Craig along for the ride, and we documented the 1:30 and 3:30 runs of the train in full across the entire length of the active segment of track. There was definitely some color to be found, and we were pleased with the results. Look forward to coming back sometime soon! Enjoy!
