The mixing board, when patched as a feedback instrument, is an incredibly versatile instrument capable of supporting a variety of sonic intentions. It is not an instrument of a singular character, but instead capable of a wide range of sounds depending on how you patch feedback loops together. This video demonstrates that sonic range through four different patches, each teaching a different set of concepts about working with the mixing board. It is important to note that feedback on the mixing board is capable of getting suddenly and intensely loud, so there are certain precautions that you should take when exploring the instrument to protect your ears and your equipment. Do not plug your headphones directly into a feedback loop on the mixing board, and use some sort of volume control or limiter to ensure that things don't get too loud. While I break the collection of techniques demonstrated in this video over four separate patches, it is of course possible to freely combine them however you like. You should explore how to combine the various techniques for stable oscillators, noise, complex routing, and sound processing to create the specific instrument that works for you. The mixing board is an open platform for sound making, and I hope you will find your own sound with it as an instrument.
