Some weather wasn't going to keep us from meeting friends for donuts and coffee! Instrument Student Maddi joined me again for a short hop to Milton, Peter Prince (2R4). Multiple cloud layers with mixed ceilings between 900' and 1500' meant IFR was the way to go. Roscoe (82J) doesn't have a remote to Pensacola approach so we called in by phone for our clearance. Traffic was light so there was no delay in getting our clearance and released to takeoff south with a turn to the West to stay out of other potential conflicts until in radar and radio contact. From there, a few vectors then a clearance direct to a T transition IAF for the Milton RNAV 36 which Maddi and I practiced last month on our 1st donut run. The IFR currency gods smiled on us and placed some clouds beyond and below the final approach fix so we could log this one officially. With winds strong out of the southwest, once we broke out just above circling minimums we transitioned to right traffic for Runway 18. A bit of wind shear in the flair made us glad to have carried a bit of gust factor for a smooth landing. A quick call to Pensacola by phone closed our IFR flight plan.
