Avantgarde Cultural Foundation is a non-profit cultural organisation based in Cyprus. Its mission is to enrich the island’s cultural life, support young Cypriot musicians, and showcase the richness of Cypriot culture beyond the country’s borders. Since its establishment in 2001, Avantgarde has maintained a strong and active presence in the nation’s cultural landscape. “The Piano Tour” is one of the Foundation’s initiatives, created to bring classical music to the widest possible audience. A grand piano — performed solo or occasionally accompanied by another instrument or voice — travels across the island, appearing in unconventional and unexpected locations. Each recital is streamed live through social media platforms. On the morning of Sunday, 23 November 2025, The Piano Tour arrived in the picturesque village of Pedoulas, situated on the northern slopes of the Troodos Mountains at an altitude of 1200 meters, with a history dating back to Byzantine times. A concert grand piano was placed in front of the Church of Archangel Michael, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Manolis Neophytou (piano) and Vakia Stavrou (voice) performed a captivating programme — a mosaic of sounds that journey across space and time, spanning different geographical regions and historical periods. Through the collaboration between Avantgarde Cultural Foundation and the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, music becomes a bridge between past and present, while also highlighting monuments of exceptional universal value on the island. The Church of Archangel Michael, built and painted in the 15th century (1474), is one of ten UNESCO-listed Byzantine churches in the Troodos region — together forming an extraordinary testimony to the island’s Byzantine heritage. Manolis Neophytou and Vakia Stavrou are artists with distinguished careers and international recognition. Their ongoing collaborations consistently offer audiences — who follow them with dedication — a unique musical experience. Neophytou’s expressive artistry at the piano and Stavrou’s unmistakable voice form a duo of remarkable depth and beauty. • The Piano Tour was a candidate for the “Music Rights Award 2025” of the International Music Council (IMC).
