How time is flying. It was a year ago since we last got together with Liz and Maggie as they came by to sing some of their beautiful repertoire as a Folk Duo called "The Twa Grannies". Their home place is in the area of Dundee in Scotland. Now, as they have been back on their annual visit to Donegal, stopping with us at the Wonderly Wagon, we were eager to hear more songs from across the sea from beautiful Scotland. And indeed, wonderful songs they brought along, as always represented with joy and feeling and beautiful harmonies. We will hear 2 songs: The first one by Eric Bogle ("If Wishes were Fishes"), and the second by Karine Polwart ("Follow the Heron Home"). I will include the lyrics of both songs, as they are just so gorgeous. Also below is a Facebook link, where you can follow Maggie Douglas and Liz Crawford on their musical journey. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... "If Wishes Were Fishes" by Eric Bogle I wish I was home again At home in my heart again It′s been a long time Since my heart talked to me Wasting my precious days Wishing my life away If wishes were fishes We'd all cast nets into the sea. If wishes were fishes I know where I′m d be Casting my nets in the dark rolling sea And if my let's empty when it comes back to shore, I'd throw them away and go fishing no more. "Follow The Heron Home" by Karine Polwart The back of the winter is broken, And light lingers long by the door. And the seeds of the summer have spoken In gowans that bloom on the shore By night and day we’ll sport and we’ll play And delight as the dawn dances over the bay Sleep blows the breath of the morning away And we follow the heron home #gypsywagontv #scottishfolk #scottishmusicscene In darkness we cradled our sorrow And stoked all our fires with fear Now these bones that lie empty and hollow Are ready for gladness to cheer chorus Long may we sing of the salmon And the snow-scented sounds of your home While the north wind delivers its sermon Of ice, and salt water, and stone chorus x 2 #gypsywagontv #scottishfolk #folkduo
