Two Intermezzi (Echoes of Liszt) 0:00 I. Mater Misericordiae, for the left hand alone. Performed by Chia-Yang Hsu. 3:55 II. Glimpses of Liszt and Weber (in a dream). Performed by Alberto Ferro. 7:55 Another interpretation of II. Glimpses of Liszt and Weber (in a dream). Performed by Alexander Kashpurin These two intimate, dreamlike piano pieces were written for the Liszt Utrecht Piano Competition 2026 and both contain allusions to the music of Franz Liszt. The first, Mater Misericordiae, is written for the left hand alone and evokes a contemplative, serene atmosphere, recalling both early music and Liszt’s austere late works. The second, Glimpses of Liszt and Weber (in a dream), also refers to Carl Maria von Weber—an important influence on Liszt—and unfolds like a dream in which fleeting images of both composers appear and fade. The pieces are performed by candidates of the Liszt Utrecht 2026 competition, won by Alexander Kashpurin.
