Johann Sebastian Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 (Arranged Stokowski) Leopold Stokowski, conductor The Philadelphia Orchestra Recorded on November 26, 1934 in Trinity Church Studio 2, Camden, NJ Leopold Stokowski was known, among other things, for his orchestrations of music for keyboards and other instruments. His most famous is the Bach Toccata and Fugue BWV 565, which was featured prominently in Walt Disney's classic "Fantasia". This recording from Victrola predates the Disney version by six years, but it is very similar. Stokowski recorded it several times over the years. There is not a great deal of difference between the performances in musical terms, although the 1934 is a little quicker than the Disney version. Anyway, here is a chance to imagine what "Fantasia" could sound like in Full Fidelity instead of the unmusical, psychedelic, "Fantasound" that is presented in the film. This recording is presented at original levels for the sake of fidelity. Make sure YouTube "Stable Volume" is turned off for accurate results.
