Here is some footage I took of all the remaining railway crossings on the Webb Dock line, in Port Melbourne, in November 2018. The Webb Dock Railway line used to be a short freight line between Southern Cross Station and Webb Dock, servicing the nearby Webb Dock container port. The line unfortunately closed in 1996, and half the line was ripped up. The remainder of the line was kept in place, including three remaining railway crossings, and each have different bits of infrastructure. I used my 'expert' editing skills to make the crossings look like they work, with flashing lights and bell sounds. The flashing light clips I took from footage I've got of the Maclise St level crossing in Castlemaine The first crossing, Wharf Road, has: Westinghouse cross-arms A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights Unmarked bases A hazard triangle warning sign on the southern side of Todd Road, which most likely would have had a standard yellow warning sign with an illustration of a crossing signal or a rail crossing sign below (thanks Level Crossing Fan for that info) An unlocked relay case with a missing test switch cabinet This crossing used to have a Westinghouse Hybrid bell. Unfortunately it had been removed before I could film it. The base remains, however. The sound effect I used for this crossing was the McMahons Road level crossing in Springhurst. This crossing also has a cantilever with incandescent globes. This is one of the last of it's kind in Victoria (except for one in Lara, which is also closed, thanks Victoria Rail Heritage for that info), as all crossings with overhead cantilevers in the state have LED lights The crossing on the driveway to the Citipower Power Grid has: Westinghouse cross-arms A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights Unmarked bases An unlocked relay case with a flickable switch and a separate bell attached on the side, which you can still manually ring This crossing used to have a Westinghouse Hybrid bell. Unfortunately it had been removed before I could film it. The sound effect I used for this crossing was the High Street level crossing in Violet Town. Lorimer Street has: A Westinghouse Hybrid bell. This is the only crossing on the line to still have it's bell in place. The sound effect I used for this crossing was the Ewings Road level crossing in Avenel. Westinghouse cross-arms A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights Unmarked bases An unlocked relay case, also with a separate bell attached on the side. Unfortunately, the gong is missing so you can't ring it All crossings are missing at least one piece of infrastructure, whether it be a cross-buck, a light, a bell, or even a visor on the light. This is what happens when a closed line falls into disrepair! More info on the Webb Dock line: it was built in 1986 to service the nearby Webb Dock container port. It was only a short line, only 7.8km in length, and ran between Southern Cross station and Webb Dock. It also wasn't opened very long, closing in 1996, a mere 10 years after it was opened. There is talk it may be reopened to provide more freight and passenger services around Port Melbourne and the growing suburb of Fisherman's Bend. There are many signs dotted around the old right of way indicating the potential reopening, but unfortunately no plans or funding have been provided. It most likely will be reopened as a skyrail service to the remove the current level crossings. There is a picture of the Webb Dock Line back in 1985 (before opening) where you can see the Lorimer Street crossing and the Citipower Power Station crossing in the background https://www.westonlangford.com/images...
