On 28 February 1991, US President George HW Bush announced a ceasefire in the US–led war against Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein, seven months after Iraq invaded and occupied neighbouring Kuwait. That day, ITN journalists entered Kuwait City, documenting jubilant Kuwaitis celebrating the country’s liberation amid scenes of widespread devastation.
