How Long Should My Podcast Intro Be?

I often get asked the question, "How long should my podcast intro be?" To clarify, we aren't talking about the intro where you are talking with your co-host about what you ate for lunch yesterday. I'm talking about the TITLE OF PODCAST, THE TAGLINE OF YOUR PODCAST, AND THE LENGTH OF THE PODCAST MUSIC. If you listen to podcast intros all over, you'll hear they range from a few seconds all the way to over a minute. Well, here's your answer: The shorter the better. Too often I hear podcast intros that waste a minute to two minutes of my time that I'll never get back. I've got a busy life and if I'm listening to a podcast, I want to get right into the topic. And in this case you can't compare yourself to Joe Rogan, Marc Maron, Bill Burr or anyone else who had a following prior to when they started a podcast. The thing is that you are a podcaster who is starting out and likely doesn't have a large audience. So, you'll need to establish your intro in a succinct nature with some quality music. Try to think of your podcast intro like an episode of Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad or and TV show you've seen before. Most of those produced intros last anywhere between 30 seconds to 45 seconds before they jump into the content. And that's the key: They jump right into the content without wasting any time on what they had for lunch last week or why they can't figure out how to operate the sound equipment. If you're looking to create a quality podcast, you have to treat it like you're creating the most epic piece of audio that anyone has ever heard--and this includes your podcast intro.
