Oxide Time: 2:20:16 My Time: 2:02:82 Full playlist: • CTR Nitro-Fueled — Nitros Oxide Time Trials The final season of the Grand Prix has arrived, and with it the last free track for the foreseeable future: Drive-Thru Danger. Beenox pulled out all the stops for this one, delivering what is probably the most technical track in the game, with Tiny Arena and Oxide Station not far behind. Expect plenty of tortuous loops and sharp chicanes (not to mention some truly zany shortcuts) that will test your mettle as much as your skill. It will take more time than usual to familiarize yourself with its layout and chart a consistent line, but as with most of Oxide's trials, maintaining Ultimate Sacred Fire (USF) through large sections of track is enough to come out on top. While not strictly necessary for this trial, I do use air brake in several places in this clip and will therefore introduce it here for those who may not be familiar with it. As this technique is better illustrated than described, see the link below for how to do it. He has the controller inputs embedded in the video that light up in timing with his movements on screen, so it's super easy to see what's going on. The video shows a PS4 controller but I'm on Xbox One and can confirm it works with either the joystick or the D-pad. I personally prefer the joystick due to the Xbox One controller's layout, but use whichever feels more natural to you. • CTR NF - alt U-turn inputs The opening section can be rather tricky as it hits you with two sharp corners right out of the gate. There won't be enough space to chain a x3 boost, so just focus on not falling off the map. Navigate these bends as best you can then be sure to start a power slide as you head toward the first boost pad. It's a USF pad, and the only one in the whole track, so it's your key to respectable lap times and, naturally, to victory. With blue-fire, you can skip part of the track down below by jumping across the short gap. Immediately land in a right-facing power slide and chain a couple boosts before the next boost pad. Instead of going straight here, aim off to the right to land on the bottom part of the track below; this is the first big shortcut. A jump off the boost pad down here will let you rejoin the main track further below. Back on the main track, jump off the next boost pad then get ready for the second big shortcut. Assuming you still have USF, you can skip another section of track here by jumping to the right. You'll need to do this anyway to be lined up properly for the shortcut. As shown in the video, you can skip the bend up ahead entirely by hopping once over the U-bend then again to pass under the pizza shop. You can technically still make this shortcut with SF; just make sure you're lined up properly before attempting it. Land in a power slide after the shortcut, and move close to the lava lamp-looking structure. I use air brake to go around this structure as tightly as I can while maintaining USF. After the boost pad, land in a right-facing power slide followed by a left-facing power slide. Jump at the crest of the hill to keep from slamming into the far barrier. As you start making your way downhill, you'l notice the left-side barrier ends: this is where you want to cut across and hop down to the track below. If you have USF you'll need to air brake to keep from falling off. If you don't, it'll be more manageable. To cut this part of the track you don't technically need SF or USF as it can be done at pretty much any speed. And that's pretty much it. The final boost pad up ahead will usher you to the finish line and from there it's just a matter of repeating these steps. Seeing as I beat Oxide here by just under 18 seconds, keeping blue-fire as long as I do isn't necessary, and neither is air brake. This is a hectic track, doubly so with USF active, so don't fret if you lose it midway through the lap. Oxide loses it, too, so as long as you can maintain it longer than he does you should stay in front of him. Lastly, if you're having difficulty staying on the track, I recommend giving drift or turn class a go rather than speed class. The Grand Prix has been a wild ride, with a total of eight imaginative tracks and tons of bonus content added to the game at no charge. Drive-Thru Danger was a fantastic farewell with enough challenge to justify Oxide's Decal—which, if you've been doing these in order, should be yours once you clear this trial. Enjoy your hard-earned prize!
