Toccata and Fugue in E minor Dedicated to Maestro Eddie Beato, NY. It took twelve days to be fully composed, from the first note to the last. I wanted to keep it simple, so I wrote the fugue only for three voices. I will probably make the fugue longer before ending the piece though. The final composition is far from a Baroque fugue... but as usual, the result may be more interesting to achieve than the initial idea. The fugue ended up being intricated with the Toccata part. I wanted to move fast in the writing, as then, you don’t have time to overthink… I wanted the music to come freely. I always obtain the best result when I’m in somekind of an auto-pilot mode. At this stage, the piece is complete, but not finished. Everything has to be revisited, possibly corrected, completed, modified, possibly re-written, smoothed out, perfected. The playability has to be double-checked, with the help of my dear pianist friends ^^ This composition differs a lot from the darker tones in which I previously composed for piano these last years. It brings me back to my early manner, more Baroque style inspired, with more sophisticated counterpoints and an exuberant and relentless flow of musical ideas. A music full of light ^^ It has been a very swift and exciting journey into music creation, after months spent away from it. I hope you’ll have as much pleasure to listen to it as I took joy to write it ^^
