Scubadiving in Saltstraumen, Norway

Saltstraumen is apparently the strongest tidal current in the world. Up to 400 million cubic meters of seawater rush through the narrow strait every six hours. It’s strongest around the full and new moon, but we went during the half moon when it’s weakest 🙂 The name literally means “the Salt Current” in Norwegian, from salt (salt) and straum (current or stream). Underwater, there are beautiful kelp forests, walls of soft corals, anemones, and hydroids. There are also many fish, nudibranchs.. and of course, my favourite, the wolffish, which are finally protected there! 🥳 They’re such cool, chill guys. The guys who run the dive center there, from Nord&Ne, are absolutely amazing as well! I can’t recommend them enough, they’re true nature enthusiasts with so much knowledge and passion for the local wildlife.
