On February 25, 2026, DARE-RC hosted Webinar 6: Increasing Middle School Enrolment – Testing Targeted Solutions in Locations with Unrestricted Middle-School Access, spotlighting evidence-driven strategies to improve transition from Class 5 to Class 6, particularly for girls. 🎤 Moderated by: Dr. Sahar Shah, Senior Research Manager, DARE-RC, Oxford Policy Management 🎓 Speakers: Khadija Hammad, Consultant, DARE-RC Middle School Transition Study Dr. Zainab Latif, Senior Fellow, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Tabadlab The session presented key findings from the DARE-RC Middle School Transition Study, combining national administrative data with a quasi-experimental pilot in Punjab. The research tested a behaviourally informed intervention aimed at addressing parents’ information gaps around middle school enrolment. Rather than focusing solely on infrastructure constraints, the study examined why enrolment gaps persist even in areas where middle schools are physically accessible. Findings demonstrated how low-cost, targeted communication and information strategies can significantly improve transition rates—offering scalable solutions to complement existing public education investments. 📌 Key takeaways included: • Evidence on transition gaps between primary and middle school • The role of parental perceptions and information asymmetry • Results from a behaviourally informed pilot intervention • Practical, scalable policy options for increasing girls’ enrolment The webinar offered essential insights for policymakers, education researchers, and development partners seeking cost-effective approaches to strengthen girls’ progression through the education system.
