Freestyle Tarzan Drill Key Items Let's take a look at our next freestyle drill, Tarzan Drill. This drill is also known in the swimming world as Water Polo Strokes. In this drill, a swimmer will perform a heads up version of freestyle. They will look like they are swinging on vines or have a water polo ball in front of them. In this progression of the drill, they will wear fins. We suggest a moderate kick. to assist the swimmer to move forward. We like this drill for a couple of reasons. The first, is the connectivity of the drill to what actual freestyle is like. This is a more aggressive form of freestyle, which won't be for everyone, and that is ok. The catch starts as the recovery hand passes the shoulder. We really like this! Secondly, the catch stays along the side of the body, forming great power triangles. This really helps connect the push and pull together, making the catch optimal!
