🚂 Explore Woodford Queensland ~ Things to do in and around Woodford Woodford is a charming country town 85 kilometres from Brisbane, known for the Woodford Folk Festival, which is held every year between Christmas and New Year. On Monday, we visit the cattle sales, see the Leopard Tank, admire the street art, and explore Stony Creek. Woodford is home to one of Australia’s largest narrow gauge steam, diesel and petrol locomotive collections. And on the first and third Sundays of the month, from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, you can take a heritage train ride through town. We enjoyed wandering around the station, looking at the railway memorabilia, and climbing aboard for a scenic ride to the Woodford Gardens Cafe. We disembarked near the cafe and looked around the lovely gardens and at the local arts and crafts market stalls. We then caught the train back to the station, the round train ride takes about 15 minutes. On Monday, we wandered around Woodford's weekly cattle sale and watched the auctioneers at work. Near the cattle yards in the Woodford Memorial Park is an AS1 Leopard Tank, a memorial to Australia’s Service Men and Women. The decommissioned tank is 7 metres long and weighs 42 tonnes. We admired the town water tower, which has been transformed to replicate a castle-like structure with ten artworks in lightboxes that reflect various aspects of the Woodford community. Along the tree-covered pathway in the town centre, we saw more fascinating artwork on a series of bollards that included stanzas from the poem ‘Bandicoot Dreaming’ by Mark Feldman. The long-nosed bandicoot is Woodford’s cheeky local icon, and you can also see the bandicoot on the water tower. Stony Creek is located in the Bellthorpe National Park, approximately 10 kilometres from Woodford. The day-use area has a lovely grassy spot with picnic tables and toilets. A short flat walk past the toilets will bring you to a large natural swimming hole, surrounded by natural bushland, the perfect place to cool down on a summer day.
