RARE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA AVAILABLE HERE: https://find-rare-jazz-rock-fusion-mu... I went looking through my extensive CD collection of fusion and found this great live concert on two CDs. I had forgotten I even had it. As usual, upon listening to it -- I found many audio problems; dropouts, low volume sections and lots of non-musical portions that added nothing to the enjoyment of the concert. Worse than all that, "Meeting of the Spirits" abruptly ended before the song was obviously over! I fixed that with a fade-out adjustment. Typical bootleg quality CDs. Also the recording overall was too mid-rangey and muddy-sounding to my musician ears. So after opening up my music editing software, I got down to business. I removed track one which was typical introduction blurbage and track two which was McLaughlin asking the audience for a typical, psuedo-spiritual, moment of extended silence & the usual wait before he would start playing. He did the same thing when I saw them in downtown Washington, D.C., USA at the DAR auditorium in 1973. That track also included boring tuning time -- zzzz. 6+ plus minutes were edited out removing tracks 1 and 2. So I began with remastering & editing the remaining tracks. I removed all applause except for at concert's ending. I also removed some other between song tuning moments. "Sister Andrea" abruptly started, with what seemed like a millisecond or two was missing. I fixed that. McLaughlin was playing so, so quietly during part of "Dream", you could barely hear him. I fixed that. Laird's bass soloing on "One Word" was also too lost in the mix. I fixed that. Cobham's drum solo on "One Word" was again lost in the mix. I fixed that. Once, McLaughlin, on one track, I forget now which one, was doing this sporadic type, low level noodling that seemed as if he was deeply lost in Sri Chinmoy-improvisation-land and couldn't decide what to play next. It definitely was NOT music. No bass, drums, keys or violin were even playing. It was dead silence except for McLaughlin's psuedo-solo burst moments & then periods of extended silence. I excised those moments. My call, I know, maybe not exactly archival-minded editing but I went ahead and did it anyway -- as it was a vast improvement over thinking something was wrong with your media player. Lastly, I added some more low-end and boosted three high-end frequencies as much as possible without causing an artifact of hiss. So, in my humble opinion, again, I offer the BEST recording of this concert available on YouTube or even on the now rare bootleg CD set. There is another video of this concert -- but my offering of this concert here on my channel is a vastly improved & carefully done remastering and editing job. Enjoy!
