This rendition of Silent Night, Hallowed Night is sung by Elsie Gruber under the Victor Talking Machine Co. label. This Christmas Hymn was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. As far as I have been able to research, this particular rendition was take 14 and recorded on 09/26/1919. The matrix # is B-11791. The Victor Label # is 17164A. The reverse side features Hark! The Herald Angels Sing sung by Trinity Choir. I believe this record was released from 1912 through 1926, with the same artists and songs being recorded and pressed under the same label as the years passed. The gramophone this is being played on is a H.M.V C102B. I believe that it is from the 1933-1935 era due to the fact that it has the wooden motor board, metal needle container, and the No. 16 sound-box. This portable suitcase model needs restoration, as there are some cosmetic issues, missing parts, and the auto-brake does not function. Overall, I believe that it sounds good for being almost 90 years old. You can hear the tinny sound-box at times during the peaks (I hear that the 5a soundbox is better). I also need newer needles and a better microphone, as there are times that this maxed out. I don't have the equipment at the moment and wanted to get these videos up before the holiday is past! No copyright infringement is intended. I own NOTHING besides the physical records and gramophone. I am not making money off of this. If anything, I lost time that could have been spent watching The Mandalorian with my dog on the couch. This is classic music that needs to be enjoyed and not forgotten!
