The Ozarks Studies Institute, an initiative of the Missouri State University Libraries, hosted David Harrison on April 11, 2024 for a poetry reading combined with musical adaptations of several of his poems by the Byron Biggers Band. Harrison is the Missouri Poet Laureate and author of ninety original titles of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, including books for children. He has won numerous awards and sold millions of copies of his books. His work has been anthologized in more than 185 books and has appeared in dozens of magazines, professional journals, and interviews in print and online. His work has been translated into twelve languages. The Byron Biggers Band is composed of guitarist Chris Craig and percussionist Gale Clithero. Following the reading and performances, Frank Taylor presented to Missouri State University Libraries a copy of the first of ten of Harrison's books that are to be published in Braille by the Legends Project. Tom Peters, Dean of Library Services at Missouri State University, introduced the author. The event took place at Kentwood Hall on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.
