This closing panel explores practical pathways to Muslim multilateralism, drawing lessons from the European integration sequence (coal–and–steel → single market → monetary union) and translating them into near-term steps for the Muslim world. Speakers argue for starting with targeted trade liberalisation among Muslim-majority countries, fair-pricing energy contracts for poorer states, and a posture that prioritises intra-Umma deals. The discussion situates these proposals in a shifting, multipolar order—highlighting recent West African confederation moves (Mali–Burkina Faso–Niger) and live debates on de-dollarisation (e.g., gas contracts in euros)—to show how smaller states can exercise agency despite entrenched institutions (IMF, NATO, UN, ICJ). The panel also probes religion’s often-masked role in European identity and integration, the limits of territorial unification, and the need to pair research with policy bridges and grassroots mobilisation. Speakers: Mehreen Khan, Economics Editor, The Times (UK); former Brussels Correspondent, Financial Times. Dr Mustafa Salama, Political Scientist; Head of Research, Ummatics Institute. Dr Emir Kaya, Professor of Public Law, Ankara Social Sciences University; author of Secularism and State Religion in Modern Turkey: Law, Policy-Making and the Diyanet. This year’s conference builds on our research agenda—focusing on the concept of ummatic soft power, political unification, and the methodologies needed to orient research and policy toward ummatic renewal. We explore how the Umma can meaningfully respond to emerging multipolar realities, navigate competing world orders, and develop new institutional and civilizational models grounded in Islamic ethics. Discussions covered the global order and ummatic strategy, research methods and conceptual frameworks, and the introduction of Collaboratives of Ummatic Soft Power (CUSPs)—transnational networks intended to cultivate cooperation across fields such as law, education, media, economics, and technology. #ummatics #UmmaticsConference2025 ___________ If you found this video insightful, consider subscribing to the Ummatics Institute channel and activating notifications so you never miss our latest updates.
