Children with guns STORYLINE: Although the Taliban control much of Afghanistan some of the country is still in the hands of forces who oppose them. These forces, loosely grouped together under the banner of the Northern Alliance, have been fighting a civil war against the Taliban. However, in this poor country there is little money for new guns. Many of the weapons used by the Northern Alliance are left over from the days of Soviet occupation. Jabul Faraje is in Northern Afghanistan, 70km north of Kabul. Here a shop does a roaring trade in repairing and altering weapons. The shop deals with everything from small arms to heavy machine guns and rocket launchers. The Northern Alliance has said it is ready to launch a fresh assault on the Taliban, in conjunction with Western forces. It could be that these weapons will soon be employed fighting the Taliban.
