Location: Station Road, Maghull. Line: Merseyrail Northern Line (Ormskirk Branchline) Liverpool Central - Ormskirk) Crossing type: MCB-CCTV Lights: 4x Unipart Rail LEDs Alarms: 2 (Clifford & Snell YO3) Barriers: 3x SPX Rail Systems, 1x Smiths Industries Timetable used: Maghull (Info from Google Maps/Real Time Trains) Footage captured on February 25th 2024. So hey, I'm back, it's been a little while. A few weeks ago, I went around various level crossings on Merseyrail's Northern Line to try and get the remaining Class 507s (as all 508s are withdrawn at the time of writing this, might have footage somewhere) in service before these are withdrawn around May. I'll be getting around to uploading the rest at some point over the next couple of weeks. This however doesn't mean I'm back full-time, as my interest in trains is not as significant as it used to be nowadays as well as my other commitments within my personal life but regardless I hope you enjoy! This crossing is a rather nice one, located in Kennessee Green, in the southern half of Maghull, it is also the only crossing located entirely on Merseyrail's Ormskirk branch line. The crossing was originally installed in the late 1970's replacing wheel-operated gates operated from Maghull's signal box (which used to be located to the left in the second video), this was closed in 1994 and demolished shortly afterwards when the level crossing was modified and control of it passed to Merseyrail's IECC at Sandhills which subsequently saw the manually controlled barriers replaced with units from Smiths Industries, however over the years 3 of these have been replaced by SPX units leaving only one remaining, If I get time I'll try and see if I can find the manufacturing year to see if it's original. The crossing alarms here are also unique for their unusual tone, I would assume these have been here for a very long time hence why they sound tired, so it's nice to see these are still here as I had originally visited this crossing in 2023 before the 777s replaced the aging Class 507/508s on the Ormskirk line. This crossing is located not far from the M58 motorway, and the ambience can be heard very clearly in the 2nd video as there was no traffic around to drown out the ambience.
