Powered by Explore.org and IWS https://www.youtube.com/live/RmmAzrAkKqI Our sweet but fierce Akecheta had a battle off camera with an intruder today. This eagle was likely trying to usurp Akecheta and win Thunder as a mate in my opinion. He followed Thunder around several times after the scuffle instead of moving on his way. You can identify Akecheta by his wing tags which was truly helpful in distinguishing who was who as well as Thunder's size difference being larger than the visitor/intruder. It's a hard sight to see, just a warning.⚠️❤️🩹 He seems to be OK for now. He flew in to the top of the tor, he wing-slapped a pair of ravens that were being nosy pests and tried to supplant them, he chortled out to claim his presence, and hopped down to a little brush cover to rest and recover where he is tucked in for the night, above Thunder's night perch. Thunder even stood guard above him for quite some time before she flew off as if to give chase. The intruder had some possible dried blood on his face as well so I'm wondering if they battled on the ground a bit and beaked each other. We will never know, of course. I'm really hoping it's not his eye but maybe his upper beak area. As he flew, it likely spread all over his beautiful white face making it look much worse. He likely needs to let his eyes clear out any debris and dried blood too so he can see better before he attempts to move again. As for rescue, he's not grounded and still capable of flight so it's impossible and not warranted at this time either. This is rough nature viewing right here. 💔 My heart hurts but let's pray tomorrow brings better news and Chet can get cleaned up a bit. ❤️🩹🙏🥹 What a fierce protector of his territory and mate! He's definitely one of my favorites! I have more of this video to share later. 🎥🦅Camera and live feed provided courtesy of Institute for Wildlife Studies & explore. org Video captured, edited and captioned by D. Persinger 📖🌻🦆
