Jens Bogren: Mixing 'In Solitude'

In this insightful interview, Jens Bogren, renowned Swedish metal producer and founder of Fascination Street Studios, explains his meticulous approach to mixing 'In Solitude'. Adhering to his philosophy of balancing sonic precision with expressive performances, Bogren shares how he shaped tones, balanced dynamics, and preserved the organic identity of the recorded material. Bogren details the techniques he used to achieve clarity and heaviness, including: • Drums: A 50/50 blend of recorded acoustic drums and samples, enhanced with parallel compression and distortion to maintain natural dynamics while adding harmonic richness and consistency. • Guitars: Re-amping two of four rhythm guitar tracks to balance scooped original tones with mid-focused re-amped tones, maximizing stereo width and clarity using EQ, automation, and multiband compression. • Bass: A mix of three distinct overdriven tones balanced through volume automation, compression, and EQ, complemented by sidechaining to the kick and toms for low-end clarity. • Vocals: Extensive dynamic processing with analogue and digital compression, distortion for cohesion with the dense mix, and heavy automation to ensure prominence and intelligibility. • Stereo Buss: Preliminary mastering treatments, including tone-matching EQ and limiting, to deliver a mix that feels finished without compromising the mastering process. 🎵 Access the multitracks, stems, and audio exports for free: https://huddersfield.box.com/s/8gren2...
