The Minimal Facts argument was offered by @garyhabermas1473 to tersely explain the evidence for the resurrection. This has been countered by the Minimal Witness argument, refined by @Paulogia, @bartdehrman, and others. But all of these arguments hyper-focus on the resurrection itself, and lose sight of the other aspects of Jesus and the birth of Christianity. So, in this video, I offer a refinement: 10 minimal facts that are widely acknowledge by skeptical and secular scholars that taken together point in the direction of a greater plausibility of Christianity. In brief, here are my minimal facts: 1. Jesus taught a moral system that was unique, radical, and lofty, yet internally consistent and fully developed. This alone is quite impressive and Jesus was at least centuries ahead of his time. 2. There is a remarkably large number of secondary sources about Jesus compared with the founders of other religions. 3. The resurrection was attested in early creedal form, suggesting it was a shared belief held by multiple individuals. According to Deuteronomy 19:15–19, one witness would not have been enough to persuade other Jews of such a claim. 4. The secondary attestations appear to aim at factual accuracy rather than mythic storytelling, suggesting Jesus and his healings were understood as historical realities. 5. Many religious traditions include sects that acknowledge Jesus, such as his depiction as a bodhisattva in Buddhism, an avatar in Hinduism, and a prophet in Islam. This is exceedingly uncommon for any religious figure. 6. Christianity is the only theological narrative that includes exceptionally clear and consistent acknowledgement from antagonistic sources. 7. Jesus is the only figure explicitly named in canonical Jewish literature who is described as performing wondrous ("magical") acts without invoking the authority of God. 8. After the death of Jesus, Jewish liturgy and theological life underwent a profound change, even among Jews who did not follow him. 9. The rapid and enduring spread of early Christianity remains difficult to explain through ordinary social or historical causes. 10. The story of Jesus contains several internal mysteries that resist easy explanation. His followers became emboldened after his death; James was converted; the tomb was reported empty; Peter experienced a transformative vision; and Paul underwent a profound theological encounter.
