Let’s go back to basics! This month I will be discussing some of the foundations of acrylic pouring, beginning with understanding paint consistency. What is paint consistency? More or less, it’s how thick or thin your paint is; how well it flows, and behaves as a liquid. But since different pouring techniques do best with different consistencies of paint, I want to teach you how to analyze your paint and really get a feel of what will work best in each case, without needing to follow a specific drip test chart. If you don’t know how to mix your paint for acrylic pouring, here’s how I do it with floetrol: • Mixing Paint for Acrylic Pouring - ST... And here is how I mix it with water for a Dutch Pour: • Mixing Paint With Just Water? How To ... As you stir your cup, pay attention to: 1. How it feels -Does it feel watery? Thick and sticky? Somewhere in between? 2. How it flows off the stick -Does it flow quickly? Slowly? -is it a thin stream, a thick stream, or blobs? 3. How it flows into the rest of the paint -Does it drop straight in, or mound up? -Is the ribbon soft, or crisp and defined? As you learn to observe your paint in the cup and then see how it works in a pour, your instincts will become so good! Subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss each new video!
