The Stars headed to St Louis for another match-up against the Blues in Game 41. The 1st period was very tightly played with neither team able to score. Shots at the 1st intermission were even at DAL 12 and STL 12. The 2nd period started the same. The Blues took the lead about halfway through. Esa Tikkanen put the puck in past Andy Moog after Jeff Norton circled the net and made a nice pass. About 4 minutes later Dallas evened things up when Mike Modano beat Curtis Joseph with a boomer from the far wing off a long pass from Dave Gagner in front of net. No shut-outs tonight. With good pressure Dallas took their first lead of the game with about 3 minutes to go when Trent Klatt took a hard shot from the wing off a pass from Mike Modano in front that Curtis Joseph bobbled and lost into his net. Shots at the 2nd intermission were DAL 33 and STL 15. Dallas kept up the pressure in the 3rd period and broke things wide open. Just 28 seconds into the period Dave Gagner went top-glove from right in front off a pass from Mike Modano at the other side of the net. About a minute and a half later Mike Modano beat Joseph top-glove on the backhand on the powerplay from right in front off great work by Trent Klatt to deke the defense and make a perfectly-timed pass when Modano got in front. Just 35 seconds later Mike Modano went top-blocker-side from between the hashes after a great chase by Dave Gagner who circled the net and fed a charging Modano in the slot. Andy Moog had the secondary assist on that play. That completed Modano's hat-trick. The score was 5-1 for Dallas. St Louis stiffened for half a period after that but Mike Modano struck again with seven and a half minutes left going top-blocker-side on the backhand off a nice feed from the side by Trent Klatt. Curtis Joseph was crowded by the defense on the play and left the game to be replaced by Jon Casey. St Louis wasn't able to cut into the large Dallas lead before the end but Dave Gagner made it 7-1 with a shot from a sharp angle on the wing off a backhand pass from Mike Modano in front after face-off win. Coach welcomed Jon Casey to the game and Dallas won in a big way. Enjoy!
