In this TED talk Gunhild shares about her career-changing experience facing the devastating impacts of plastic pollution on the isle Lisle Lyngøy in western Norway. The first encounter made a lasting impression both emotionally and professionally and led to research invested in understanding the consequences of plastics becoming part of nature. Gunhild Bødtker is a microbiologist working at NORCE Research in Bergen, Norway. She leads the international research center North Atlantic Microplastic Centre, which focus on holistic knowledge building about microplastics as environmental pollutants, including how humans are exposed and consequences on our health. Gunhild is also a member of the Norwegian scientific committee for Food and Environment, where she contributes with her expertise on microbial ecology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
