Video Description I've had plans to make a video about the floating market in Hat Yai (Khlong Hae) for a long time, but it's been closed because of the current government restrictions. Those restrictions have been relaxed a little recently and I wasn't sure if the market had reopened. It hadn't, so the video I had intended making will have to wait. However ... while visiting the floating market at Khlong Hae temple I was also very interested to see how the Mon temple was progressing. Temples in Thailand are usually funded through donations and take a long time to build. I first saw the big Chinese temple in central Hat Yai (Cheo Chaang) almost 20 years ago and it still isn't finished. Likewise, the Mon temple was started several years ago and is still in progress. There are lots of Mon construction workers working in Hat Yai and they started to build this temple, which is a miniature replica of the famous Shwedagon Pagoda in Burma, several years ago. I haven't visited for a while and had a very pleasant surprise today. Much of the temple has now been finished and it is starting to look quite spectacular. When it is finished it will be the most attractive temple in Hat Yai - in fact, it probably already is. If you visit Hat Yai, a trip to the floating market (when it finally reopens) and the Mon temple will be very worthwhile. Do remember that this amazing building is funded through donations, so please be generous at the donation box!! After talking with a couple of gentlemen at the temple today, they requested that I publicize the temple as much as I can (which I'm very happy to do). Life, as we all know, is far from normal at the moment and with so few people visiting the temple they are struggling to raise funds for the ongoing construction.
