Video Description Yo Island (เกาะยอ) is in the middle of Songkhla Lake and connected to the mainland by two very long bridges named after a former Prime Minister, Prem Tinsulanonda (เปรม ติณสูลานนท์). Prem, who was President of the Privy Council and very close to King Bhumidol was born in Songkhla. Natives of Songkhla are very proud of this fact. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 98. Being an island there is naturally a fishing industry and fruit is also grown on the island, including pungent jumpadah, also known as cempedak. The island is quite famous for its cottage weaving industry. Cloth is woven on wooden looms that are operated by hand. There are also seafood restaurants and quite a few people have opened 'home stays', which are similar to bed-and-breakfast establishments in other countries. The Folklore Museum on Yo Island, which is part of The Institute for Southern Thai Studies at nearby Thaksin University in Songkhla is also worth a visit, but on this trip we didn't have time to visit. If you're in Hat Yai and looking for somewhere to go for a half or full day excursion it's a good place to visit. How I Book Hotels In Thailand And Elsewhere I always use Agoda to book hotels.
