In this video, we demonstrate the operation of a Hydraulic Double Acting Cylinder using a 4/3 Directional Control Valve as part of the Fluid Power Systems lab for DMCH 3rd Semester students. This experiment focuses on understanding how hydraulic power is controlled using a directional control valve. A double acting cylinder performs work in both forward and return strokes, and the 4/3 directional control valve determines the direction of fluid flow, which in turn controls the extension and retraction of the piston. We begin with a clear explanation of the hydraulic circuit, including the hydraulic power pack, pump, reservoir, pressure relief valve, and the 4/3 DC valve. The working positions of the valve are explained in detail, showing how fluid flows from the pump to port A or port B depending on spool position. The neutral condition of the valve is also discussed to understand what happens when the system is idle. During the practical demonstration, you will observe the extension and retraction of the double acting cylinder, pressure behavior in the system, and how smooth and controlled motion is achieved using hydraulic principles. The importance of proper hose connections, avoiding leakage, and maintaining safety while working with pressurized systems is also highlighted. This session strengthens core concepts such as Pascal’s Law, pressure-flow relationship, direction control, and actuator operation. It is highly useful for understanding industrial hydraulic circuits used in presses, clamping systems, injection molding machines, and automation setups.
