An Evening of Spelling with Andrew & Jakob: Two handsome guys with autism, apraxia, and autonomy

At this special event in June 2024, Jakob and his best friend Andrew spent several hours demonstrating the progress they made in the ability to communicate their true thoughts and feelings despite their diagnosis of autism and apraxia. These two young men are consistently misunderstood and underestimated. They are on a mission to dispel the myth just because someone struggles to communicate, it doesn’t mean they’re incapable. With help from a trained communication partner from the organization Autistically Inclined, Andrew and Jakob are able to share all their thoughts, hopes, and dreams. During this event, Andrew, Jakob, and their communication partner, Julie, share why their autism and apraxia prevent them from communicating easily, and how this process of spelled communication works so they can communicate their truth.
