The last Winter stop in this series is at Section House & Ken's Cabin. Both are located in the same area, on top of Boreas Pass, but are booked separately. There is so much history in these two buildings, both built in the 1800's, and staying in them is a unique experience unlike any of the other huts in the Summit Huts Association system. We first attempted to reach the cabins by ebike, but the snow was too soft as the temperature in Breckenridge was too warm that week and melted a lot of the snow. The following day we ditched the bikes and skinned up the road to reach the huts. The approach is long, 6 miles, but the 3% grade made the hike in faster than expected. I would recommend staying at these cabins for people who value solitude and are fans of history. Hut trips are an incredible way to experience the Colorado backcountry.
