Welcome to my channel. Where I document life and gardening both at home and at the allotment. I am based in Lincolnshire , UK. Terry (mentioned in the video ) You tube page / @terrykingsallotmentgardening Terry does this with comfrey I think much better than me but the idea is the same. Uses a wheelie bin found here • 2025 Comfrey Concentrate Harvest ❄️ @jenny... This is me trying to do something constructive with what I have to hand. The compost tumbler was on my plot 1 when I took it on minus its frame. The animal housing bases where put out as rubbish going into landfill on a neighbouring street to the allotment . They are not quite right for the job but they hold liquid well one does and will do until something else comes along. What I really need is something round. I may need to actually make a stand perhaps. Mine will not be so concentrated as rain can mix with it so it does need tweaking. The animal housing could also have holes drilled into it and be a small raised bed so I will find a permanent use for it eventually to live out its days. One of them already has had a hole cut in the base and I will use that as a planter . Making compost you do have to be very careful you do not put in any more weed seeds and perennial weeds or you will get them back tenfold and of course you need such a lot of material to make enough compost for an allotment, even Charles Dowding buys compost ! / @charlesdowding1nodig What I am using today are excess strawberry plant matter from the strawberry bed, Brown and dead leaves or runners that I cannot use. I am also using dead tomato plants and rotten tomatoes that became inedible as the weather turned colder. All this plant matter I have kept separate for this purpose. I do compost bindweed if it dry's out enough but once dry it goes brown and crispy this is not happening. I don't compost perennial weeds like brambles , dandelions , dock, plantain but you can dry them out or drown the roots in water so I am told. I will use whatever I can to compost. I have the use of horse manure at the moment and rabbit manure - hay /-straw. Still fairly new to allotments but not new to gardening maybe a water butt setting up for all that type of matter would work Anyone new to the channel Plot 2 was newly taken over January 2025 I grew a lot in it this year without amending the soil much so for now I am rectifying all that. Its riddled in bind weed everywhere. The plot was not maintained for over a year prior to me getting it. In the video I am not well I have a tickly cough and a sore throat but I decided I would go do a bit as no rain for a change . I do not normally sound like that 😂 It was a windy day a storm travelling across the country over a 3 day period so as you can see the camera tripod was constantly getting blown off angle. Filmed back in 2025 when you could dig and the ground wasn't frozen 👍 Winter new videos are weekly , downloaded every Monday morning Thanks for watching #windy #weather #compost #composting #plants #organicmatter #plantfertilizer #allotment #makedoandmend
