The Chicago Terminal operates several switching districts on 2 different sides of town, one within the confines of the city of Chicago, the other in the northwest suburb of Elk Grove Village. Both are former Milwaukee Road and Chicago and North Western territories, respectively and each are unique in their own ways. Their operation of the Milwaukee’s C&E, otherwise known as Goose Island Line, is a unique operation within the tight urban confines of the north side of Chicago. Utilizing a former Algoma Central EMD SW8, their crew is kept busy several times a week shuffling cars for a handful of customers left on this once thriving industrial branch. Then we look at the Indiana Railroad operating coking coal trains withing the Chicago area. These trains were led with Montana Rail Link 40’s along with INRD 40’s and 60’s.
