2nd visit to Torquay on the Torbay Line with my only visit prior being way back in August 2019 Featuring services from Great Western Railway The first Torquay station opened in 1848 by the South Devon Railway as a Terminus although not exactly in the town centre itself. In fact it was on the site of todays Torre Station The present Torquay station opened on August 2nd 1859 by the Dartmouth & Torbay Railway whilst at the same time the former original Torquay station was renamed Torre. It was rebuilt in 1878 2 years after the then South Devon Railway was taken over the Great Western Railway The line was doubled to Torquay in 1892 however it wasn't until 1910 when the rest of the line down to Paignton was doubled which is nowadays the main terminus for services on the Torbay Line. The former North Ground Frame and Sidings were taken out of use in 1966 with the South Signal Box closing in 1984. The present station is only a few minutes walk from the seafront at the nearby Torre Abbey Sands Todays services provided by Great Western Railway mainly to and from Paignton to Exmouth as well as few trains a day direct to London Paddington A mixture of DMUs such as Class 150 Sprinters, Class 165 and 166 Turbos manly operate the local services although occasionally at times Class 158s operate on some Exmouth - Paignton workings although nowadays in the Southwest they mainly work Barnstaple to Exeter Central services. Class 800 and 802 IETs nowadays the intercity fleet that provide a few services a day to and from London Paddington Occasionally CrossCountry services operate to Paignton originate either from Birmingham New Street or Manchester Piccadilly Music used: JJD - Adventure Music provided by NCS Video link: NoCopyrightSounds • JJD - Adventure | Glitch Hop | NCS - Copyr...
