Our speakers for this presentation are Alex and Steff from Mold who previously gave us such a fascinating talk on Hawaii. Their topic this time is Birding the Indian Ocean – Seychelles, Reunion & Mauritius. Beautiful beaches, stunning scenery and incredible birds – the Indian Ocean has it all. With a wealth of endemic species to be found across the many islands coupled with close-up encounters of numerous nesting seabirds, these Indian Ocean islands are a must-visit birding holiday destination. Whilst some species are faring better than others thanks to successful conservation efforts, others are sadly on the brink. Join us for a look at the species that make these incredible islands their home and hear about the stories of their survival. Sit back and enjoy Frigate and Tropic Birds, Tropical Shearwaters, Noddies and exotic terns as well as endemic passerines such as Seychelles Paradise Flycatcher and Seychelles Black Parrot whilst learning about their conservation. Alex and Steff have been travelling all corners of the globe for the past ten years, from searching out New World warblers in America, exploring the wet tropics of Australia, traversing the deserts of the Middle East or hopping across Europe in the search for island endemics. Both are firm believers that with careful planning, “do it yourself” trips are one of the most rewarding ways to enjoy the world’s birds, and are far easier to do than many people realise.
