In this talk we hear all about one of Europe's foremost Bird Observatories - Skagen at the northern tip of Denmark. This is where Denmark comes closest to Sweden and where a fine peninsula of sand dunes, scrub, woodland and waterbodies provide habitat for a wide range of bird migrants, both Spring and Summer. Expert ornithologists, Lauren Evans and Dante Shepherd (of Pallas's Warbler and Red-eyed Vireo fame!) spent Spring 2023 at Skagen which is Northern Europe's best migration spot for birds of prey on their annual northerly journeys. Lauren and Dante have a particular interest in bird migration both here in NW Wales and have observed and ringed migrants at North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory in Orkney. In this talk they describe the excitement of witnessing mass movements of raptors and warblers and other migrants during their time at Skagen.
