DBSA NCA Speaker Series: Dr. Elizabeth Ballard on The Science of Suicide

Dr. Ballard will give updates on research into the science of suicide. First, she will discuss how suicide risk can change over time and the importance of understanding the dynamic nature of suicide risk. Then, she will give updates on neurobiological efforts to understand suicide, including findings from neuroimaging and sleep. Lastly, she will summarize treatment approaches for suicide risk, including ketamine and safety planning. Dr. Ballard is a licensed clinical psychologist with NIMH. She received her Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America and has extensive clinical experience working with suicidal patients. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Department of Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System and a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Ballard leads suicide research within the branch and is the Lead Associate Investigator on the Neurobiology of Suicide Protocol.
