West Somerset Railway - 'AUTUMN STEAM GALA' (GWR175 - The Finale) 30/09/2010

The West Somerset Railway's 'Autumn Steam Gala' held over September 30th - October 3rd 2010 was the last major event to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the Great Western Railway. The star attraction for the event was not actually a GWR engine at all: LMSR 'Black 5'-class 4-6-0 No.44767 "George Stephenson" from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Also starring were three major GWR 4-6-0s and a 2-6-2T who starred in the 2009 'The Prelude' gala. These were 4073-class 'Castle' 4-6-0 No.5029 "Nunney Castle", 6000-class 'King' 4-6-0 No.6024 "King Edward I", 4900-class 'Hall' 4-6-0 No.4953 "Pitchford Hall" and 4575-class 2-6-2T No.5542. The other visiting loco was the earlier type of 'Small Prairie'. 4500-class No.4566 from the Severn Valley Railway. These locos joined the remainder of the WSR's home fleet. A special attraction at Washford over the weekend included SDJR 7F-class 2-8-0 No.88 performing demonstrations of the Witaker Token Exchange apparatus.
