As we slowly come of lockdown, many of us are overwhelmed about a return to pre-lockdown living. Re-entry anxiety is the term used to describe a specific form of stress associated with fears surrounding returning to your previously established routines. We have been in lockdown for such a long time that we have become used to a different routine. And in many ways, we have become institutionalised. There is genuine fear amongst many that after being told we mustn’t go out, go on public transport and keep a safe distance, all of a sudden the doors have been opened and many don’t want to go through them. Many of us have lost confidence and are genuinely nervous. New routines have been made and now we are having to go back to old ones with the knowledge that there is still risk of infection. Going to the shops and mixing with everyone can be quite daunting. Standing in line – some people have gloves and masks but not all. Management need to be sensitive to the specific needs of individuals and make sure they support their team every step of the way.
